SMU Arts Festival, by SMU Office of Student Life
SMU Arts Festival is an annual showcase of creative expression through the arts. Featuring events comprising a range of art forms including music, dance, theatre, literary as well as visual arts, the festival provides a purposeful opportunity to bring the arts to the public audience. GAYA, by SMU Komunitas Indonesia
Short for Gelar Budaya, GAYA is an annual theatre production by students within and outside SMU’s Indonesian community. It showcases Indonesia’s rich and multi-faceted culture.
Festiva, by SMU Symphonia
Festiva is SMU Symphonia's annual concert series, featuring its wind symphony. Each year, Festiva takes on a different theme that showcases the versatility of Symphonia’s musicians. The most recent Festiva involved an orchestral performance featuring the evolution of classical works to modern day pieces.
Community Engagement
SMU Samba Masala and Community Drumming Network
SMU Samba Masala performed alongside the Community Drumming Network housed in Kallang Community Club at the SMU Arts Festival opening item in 2019. Prior to the performance, SMU Samba Masala taught and guided the 12 senior citizens performers in weekly rehearsals at SMU.
SMU Eurhythmix and Youth-rhythmix
Youth-rhythmix, or YMIX, is a community service dance initiative led by student volunteers from SMU Eurhythmix. Since January 2019, SMU Eurhythmix has been working with youths from Lakeside Family Services to put up dance performances at platforms such as the club’s annual production, Timeless, and SMU Arts Festival.
SMU Artdicted, SMU Literati, SMUSAIC, and Bras Basah Complex Merchants’ Association
With the help of Bras Basah Complex Merchants’ Association our visual arts clubs, SMU Artdicted, SMU Literati and SMUSAIC created FADE, SMU’s first tri-club visual arts exhibition that presented the individual and collective memories of Bras Basah Complex through photos, drawings and poems.
Competitive Achievements
SMU VOIX at A Cappella Championships
SMU VOIX was proclaimed Open Category champions at A Cappella Championships (AcaChamps) in 2019 – their third consecutive win at the competition. The team also achieved their highest score at this competition instalment, compared to their past years’ wins.
SMU Chamber Choir at Salzburg International Celebration and Choral Competition
SMU Chamber Choir took part in the 2nd Salzburg International Celebration and Choral Competition 2019. They bagged Gold Diplomas in the Open Mixed (B1) and Musica Sacra categories. These qualified them for the Grand Prix which consisted of choirs from Norway, Philippines, Czech Republic, South Africa and Iceland.
SMU Caderas Latinas at India International Dance Congress
SMU Caderas Latinas’ senior team claimed the Team Championship trophy, and a junior couple clinched the 1st Runners-up title in the Salsa Semi-Professional category at the India International Dance Congress (IIDC) 2019, Asia’s largest Latin dance event featuring international teams such as USA, Italy, China and India.
